Terms & Conditions

Updated: September 2026

Welcome to the Insurance Institute of East Africa (IIEA). These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the IIEA website and, where applicable, your registration for and participation in programmes, courses, qualifications, certifications, workshops and other professional development services offered or facilitated by IIEA.

By accessing this website, submitting an application or registration, enrolling in a programme, or purchasing an IIEA service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

  1. About IIEA

The Insurance Institute of East Africa (IIEA) is a professional education and training institution providing insurance, compliance, financial services and related professional education and capacity-development programmes.

IIEA offers professional qualifications, certifications, designations, executive and specialist programmes, online learning, workshops, corporate training and other professional development solutions.

IIEA is a National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Approved Training Provider, Ref: NITA/TRN/1365.

Certain programmes may be developed or delivered by IIEA or offered in collaboration with external professional bodies, awarding organisations, educational institutions or other partners. Programmes may also carry external accreditation, recognition, endorsement, certification or professional pathways, as applicable. Where relevant, the programme information will clearly identify the respective roles of IIEA and the external organisation.

  1. Website Use

The information provided on this website is intended for general information, professional education, programme selection and enrolment purposes.

Users agree to use the website lawfully and not to:

  • interfere with the operation or security of the website;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, account or information;
  • reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit protected website content without authorisation; or
  • use the website for fraudulent, misleading or unlawful purposes.

IIEA may restrict or suspend access where misuse, security concerns or unlawful activity is identified.

  1. Programme Information

IIEA makes reasonable efforts to ensure that information relating to programmes, qualifications, fees, duration, entry requirements, assessment, certification and delivery arrangements is accurate at the time of publication.

However, programme information may be updated periodically to reflect changes in curriculum, regulatory requirements, professional standards, partner requirements, technology, assessment arrangements or other operational considerations.

Where a programme is provided in association with an external awarding, professional or certification body, its applicable regulations and requirements may also apply.

  1. Applications and Enrolment

Submission of an application, registration form or payment does not necessarily guarantee admission to a programme where entry requirements, eligibility verification or approval by an external body is required.

Applicants are responsible for providing complete and accurate information and, where required, authentic supporting documentation.

IIEA reserves the right to decline or cancel an enrolment where information supplied is materially inaccurate, misleading or fraudulent.

  1. Fees and Payment

Programme and service fees are stated in the relevant programme information, quotation, invoice, registration documentation or other official IIEA communication.

Unless otherwise stated:

  • fees must be paid according to the payment terms communicated by IIEA;
  • access to learning materials, examinations, certification or other services may be conditional upon payment;
  • instalment arrangements, where permitted, are subject to the terms agreed with IIEA; and
  • fees may be revised from time to time.

Any applicable taxes, examination charges, membership fees, certification fees or third-party charges will be communicated where relevant.

  1. Cancellations, Transfers and Refunds

Once a learner has been enrolled onto a course or programme and access to the course, learning materials or related services has been provided, the enrolment is non-transferable and all fees paid are non-refundable.

A learner may not transfer their enrolment, course access or learning account to another person.

Fees will not be refunded where a learner chooses not to commence or complete the programme, withdraws after enrolment, fails to participate in the programme, or does not complete the programme within the applicable period.

Where IIEA has committed or paid any amounts to third parties, including awarding bodies, examination bodies, certification providers, professional associations or other external service providers, such amounts are also non-refundable.

Any deferment of studies, where permitted, shall be at the discretion of IIEA and subject to the conditions applicable to the particular programme. A deferment does not constitute a cancellation or create an entitlement to a refund or transfer of enrolment to another person.

Where IIEA cancels a programme and is unable to provide a reasonable alternative or rescheduled delivery, affected learners will be advised of the available options.

  1. Online Learning

Some IIEA programmes are delivered through online learning platforms operated by IIEA or its partners.

Learners are responsible for maintaining appropriate internet access, compatible devices and any other technology necessary to participate in online learning.

Login credentials are personal to the registered learner and must not be shared.

IIEA may suspend access where there is evidence of account sharing, unauthorised access, academic misconduct, non-payment or misuse of the learning platform.

  1. Assessments and Examinations

Assessment and examination arrangements vary according to the programme. Depending on the qualification or certification, assessment may include examinations, multiple-choice assessments, assignments, projects, capstone assessments, practical activities or other forms of evaluation.

For programmes leading to qualifications, certifications or other credentials issued by external awarding bodies, professional bodies or certification organisations, assessments and examinations are generally administered in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and assessment requirements of the respective organisation.

Candidates enrolled in such programmes are required to comply with the applicable third-party requirements, including examination registration procedures, assessment conditions, examination schedules, identification requirements, permitted attempts, resit arrangements, academic integrity requirements and any other conditions prescribed by the relevant organisation.

IIEA may facilitate programme registration, preparation, learning support or examination arrangements where applicable, but does not control or override the assessment, examination, marking, results, appeals or certification decisions of an external awarding or professional body.

For programmes assessed directly by IIEA, candidates must comply with the assessment and examination requirements communicated for the particular programme.

Academic misconduct, including cheating, impersonation, plagiarism, unauthorised collaboration, falsification or improper use or distribution of assessment materials, may result in action in accordance with the applicable IIEA or third-party assessment regulations, including cancellation of an assessment, disqualification or other appropriate sanctions.

  1. Certification and Professional Recognition

The certification, qualification, designation or other credential awarded upon successful completion of a programme will be as specified for that particular programme.

For programmes leading to qualifications, certifications, designations or professional credentials issued by an external awarding body, professional body, certification organisation or educational institution, the issuance of the credential is subject to the learner successfully satisfying the assessment, eligibility, certification and other requirements of the respective organisation.

IIEA may facilitate access to such programmes, provide learning and examination preparation support, coordinate registration or certification processes, and provide other learner support in accordance with the applicable partnership arrangements. However, the award, classification, certification, designation, professional membership or other recognition granted by an external organisation remains subject to that organisation’s own rules, requirements and decisions.

For programmes developed and certified directly by IIEA, successful participants will receive the applicable IIEA certificate upon satisfying the programme and assessment requirements. Where an IIEA programme carries external accreditation, recognition, endorsement or a pathway to professional membership, this will be expressly stated in the relevant programme information.

Professional membership, designations and post-qualification recognition may be subject to separate eligibility, application, continuing professional development, membership fees or other requirements prescribed by the relevant professional body.

Completion of a programme does not guarantee employment, promotion, professional membership, licensing or regulatory recognition unless such an outcome is expressly stated as forming part of the particular programme or professional pathway.

  1. Workshops and Corporate Training

IIEA offers public workshops, executive development programmes, conferences, customised training and in-house corporate learning for individuals, organisations and institutions.

Each workshop, event or corporate training engagement may have specific terms and conditions relating to registration, fees, payment, cancellations, substitutions, dates, venues, delivery arrangements and other applicable requirements. These will be communicated in the relevant programme information, registration documentation, proposal, quotation, contract or other official communication from IIEA.

By registering for a workshop or confirming a corporate or in-house training engagement, the participant or contracting organisation agrees to the specific terms and conditions communicated for that particular engagement, in addition to any relevant provisions of these general Terms and Conditions.

Where there is any inconsistency between these general Terms and Conditions and the specific terms expressly communicated for a particular workshop, event or corporate training engagement, the specific terms applicable to that engagement will take precedence in relation to that service.

  1. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, website content and IIEA-developed materials – including text, graphics, course materials, learning resources, assessments, designs, videos, documents and other educational content – are owned by or licensed to IIEA and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Programme materials are supplied for the learner’s personal educational use only.

They may not be copied, reproduced, republished, sold, distributed, uploaded, commercially exploited or shared with third parties without prior written permission from IIEA or the relevant rights holder.

Materials belonging to IIEA’s partners remain the intellectual property of their respective owners.

  1. Third-Party Organisations and Websites

The IIEA website may contain information about or links to partner organisations, professional bodies, awarding organisations and external websites.

IIEA is not responsible for the availability, security, privacy practices or content of external websites.

Access to third-party websites is subject to the terms and policies of the respective organisations.

  1. Data Protection and Privacy

IIEA collects and processes personal information for legitimate purposes associated with enquiries, applications, enrolment, programme administration, learner support, assessments, certification, communication and related services.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements and the IIEA Privacy Policy.

Where necessary for programme administration, assessment, certification, professional membership or related services, relevant information may be shared with an authorised partner, awarding body, examination provider or service provider.

  1. Communications

By submitting an enquiry, application or registration, users consent to receiving communications reasonably necessary for responding to the enquiry or administering the relevant programme or service.

Marketing communications will be handled in accordance with applicable requirements, and recipients may opt out of non-essential marketing communications.

  1. Website Availability and Security

IIEA seeks to maintain reliable and secure digital services but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to the website or online platforms.

Temporary interruptions may occur due to maintenance, upgrades, telecommunications failures, cybersecurity measures or circumstances beyond IIEA’s reasonable control.

  1. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, IIEA will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the website or participation in its services.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

  1. Changes to These Terms

IIEA may amend these Terms and Conditions periodically to reflect changes in its services, technologies, legal requirements or operating practices.

The latest version will be published on this website together with the date of the most recent update.

Where a material change affects an existing learner’s contractual rights or obligations, the applicable enrolment or programme terms will be considered.

  1. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya.

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the use of IIEA services will be subject to the applicable laws and dispute-resolution processes of Kenya, unless different terms have been expressly agreed in writing or are required by an applicable external awarding or professional body.
